About Dropping courses

The Online Course deadline for the Fall Term is Monday, September 18

There are a number of factors students must take into consideration before they drop a course:

  • Do you know when the course will be available again? Some courses at Sheridan are only offered during one term of the academic year. It may be necessary to wait a year before you can retake the course.
  • What are your options for retaking the course (ie Continuing Education vs Day School).
  • How will dropping a course (particularly pre-requisites) affect you for future courses?
  • How will dropping a course affect your graduation prospects?
  • Students looking to drop a co-requisite course must drop all components of that co-requisite
  • Students applying for Advanced Standing or a Fee Waiver are advised not to drop courses until approval has been granted by the College
  • International students cannot drop from a full time to part time course load

If you are unsure of the financial or academic consequences of dropping a course you should contact a Academic Advisor, the Office of the Registrar or the Student Advisement Centre.

Course Fees

Please note: that students will not receive a refund for a dropped course. Students that wish to take a previously dropped course will incur additional costs for doing so.

Fees to retake a course are considerably higher for international students. It is recommended that you contact the International Centre to determine the cost of adding the course in a future term before dropping the course.

Dropping a prerequisite

Students can drop prerequisite courses from their timetable. However, this is not recommended as it may have serious implications for a student's academic progression. Students are responsible for ensuring that they are enrolled in all their required courses for each term. Students will also have to cover the costs of taking a course at a later date.

Exemptions (subject to change)

  • Students cannot drop field placements with the exception of Social Service Worker & Social Service Worker - Gerontology programs.
  • International students may not drop from a full-time to part-time course load.
  • Exempt Programs and Courses
